This is the blog for my gap year with Thinking Beyond Borders. The gap year is in essence a trip meant to teach students about international development issues abroad; our group of students and teachers/group leaders will be travelling to South Africa, India, Cambodia, Ecuador, and Peru. In these countries we will be participating in fieldwork so we can better understand issues that these countries face and also participating in group lectures to study how to best foster development in the future.
I’m leaving tonight at 9pm and I am currently feel a strange mix of excitement and terror. It still hasn’t really sunk in and I don’t know if it will until I am actually walking off the plane that arrives in Johannesburg.
I’m not sure how often I’ll be updating this blog, but when I do it will probably consist of experiences that I thought were extra noteworthy or thoughts on development issues that I encounter on the trip.
